Filipino/Asian Stores in Denmark

One of the first challenges I had during the first 6 months I lived in Denmark was finding a shop that sells Filipino food and goodies. I think all Pinoy expats can relate. It's not like back home where we can easily find a one-stop sari-sari store in every block or a wet market within a one mile radius. The big grocery chains here have very limited asian selection next to none. I struggled for some time. There's nothing like the satisfaction of being able to make a steaming hot nilagang baka (beef stew) on a cold rainy day or satisfying your sweet tooth with a leche flan when you are pms'ing or when you're longing for little taste of home, especially your mom's cooking.

If you're like me, who craves Pinoy food every now and then, I give you holy grail of lists, at least it is for me. LOL. And you're welcome!

Here are some known (and huge) Filipino shops in Denmark.  I also included the Asian stores that sell Pinoy goodies. Some of these stores sell ready to eat Pinoy meals, kitchenwares, miscellaneous household items and they also have money remittance services (Ria and Western Union).

These are not the only stores that sell Pinoy goods. There's definitley a lot of smaller Asian stores you can find in any random street, nook or corner. They're easier to find because there's more of them. There's at least one in every city. They're not exclusively Filipino. It's a mixed majority of thai, vietnamese, indian, arab, japanese or chinese food selections both dry and frozen. You can find them selling chillimansi pancit canton, silver swan soy sauce, a sack of rice, etc. But don't expect them to have your creamsilk, efficascent oil or your purefoods hotdogs because most likely they don't carry them. If you spot one, don't be afraid to step in and take a look around, they might have something for you.

It's also helpful to know, like I've mentioned earlier, some of the grocery chains have an Asian aisle like in Lovberg and Fotex. Lovberg sell atay sa manok and gizzard, buto-buto and buntot ng baka in their meat section. I was also able to buy a bundle of tanglad (lemon grass)and a pack of monggos (mung beans) there. Fotex also has an asian aisle but lesser than Lovberg's. They're more on Japanese and Chinese.

So there you go. I hope this article helps you find your way to one of these shops and taste a little bit of home.

If you know more Filipino stores, please let me know so I can include them on my list. Just hit the contact button and message away!
